It is often the case that when a client is happy with their smile, their attention switches to the problem of facial lines and wrinkles. Dr Magee is trained and officially accredited in the use of Botox, dermal fillers and thread face-lift procedures to rejuvenate the face and eliminate facial lines and wrinkles.
Botox was first used in medicine in 1977 when it was used to relax eye muscles in the treatment of strabismus. As we get older our facial muscles tend to cause lines and wrinkles, seen especially as "crow's feet" lines near the eyes, and frown lines on the forehead. The reason these become more obvious as we get older is that we lose the natural elasticity and volume of youthful skin.
The first step in rejuvenating the face is achieved by causing the facial muscles to relax by injecting them with Botox.
Once the facial muscles are relaxed, we can then restore the volume and elasticity of the skin by injecting (under local anaesthesia) a naturally occurring material called hyaluronic acid.
This replaces the loss of elastic compounds in the skin and also rehydrates the skin by attracting water molecules, thereby increasing the volume of the soft tissues of the face.
This is a fairly new procedure whereby barbed threads are passed into the skin, and when tightened tend to lift sagging skin. This is considered to be an effective, discreet alternative to the more invasive traditional facelift, but with a much quicker recovery time.
